This doesn't cost anything and can be linked with the Live account, but it's still an annoyance. You'll have to create an EA account, instead of just relying on your Live one. There are some strange differences for Live play. EA and Microsoft apparently buried the hatchet and now football fans can enjoy the best football game on the best console online service - Live. Of course, the biggest change for us Xboxers is the fact that Madden NFL 2005 is finally Live. The biggest change to the game's franchise mode is Storyline Central which allows you to track players off the field through e-mails, newspaper stories and calls into a radio talk show hosted by Tony Bruno. If you time it right you can create a fumble, if you miss it you may fall flat on your face. The biggest change to D is the hit stick, which basically allows you to use the right thumbstick to deliver devastating tackles. But this year's game overhauls the defense experience, making it nearly as much fun to play as offense and more importantly it's made it as important to winning the game. The glitz, glamour and presentation are all as comprehensive and atmospheric as ever (although as always it's nowhere near as good as it is on console), and the gameplay is as authentic an experience as an American Football fan could need.įor nearly 14 years players have spent their time playing defense waiting for their chance at chucking the ball and running it. Otherwise though, it's pretty much the same game as before. The career mode (or franchise mode', hammering home the capitalist nature of the American sporting system) is far more involving than before and you have a far clearer idea of what's expected of you. As is the norm with EA Sports titles, each new year brings a clutch of new 'features' - the main ones here being improved defensive controls and a 'storyline' mode, which really just equates to ongoinq newspaper reports and the EA Sports Radio program blaring away between games, telling you how great your team is or where you're going wrong. You see, EA Sports has finally got around to addressing the only real issue that people have had with the Madden series to date - namely that the defensive game is piss-poor.
